THE ROSIE PROJECT (Graeme Simsion) - October 27/14

This is a perfectly readable book that's essentially Sheldon looking for a wife, although this guy is clearly much more adaptable than that Big Bang Theory character. I was entertained throughout, even though there are a few slow patches and I wasn't quite able to remember all the various characters. A solid read. *** out of ****

THE BIG SLEEP (Raymond Chandler) - October 20/14

This was not good. The case couldn't possibly have been more boring and it's way too complicated and convoluted to boot. Chandler's flowery prose got annoying quickly and I just had to struggle to finish this thing. *1/2 out of ****

MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN (Chad Kultgen) - October 9/14

Very, very impressed by this book. It reminded me a lot of Tom Perotta's work and specifically Little Children, so obviously I loved it. The football stuff was a little tedious, but otherwise I really enjoyed getting to know all these characters. ***1/2 out of ****

ABOUT A BOY (Nick Hornby) - October 4/14

In theory, this should've been right up my alley. But despite the likable characters, I was just not able to completely lose myself in the narrative. Hornby has a penchant for over-describing his characters' internal monologue and occasionally gets bogged down in flowery prose, which certainly held me at arms length. Still, it's a nice story and the characters are memorable. **1/2 out of ****
