THE INVISIBLE MAN (H.G. Wells) - September 27/13

I was kinda enjoying this at the beginning, but Wells offers up a midsection that seems to unfold entirely in flashback. It's just so descriptive that I eventually lost interest. It's too bad because there's definitely a lot of good stuff here, including the title character's decision to wage war on a double-crosser. (I kept thinking as I was reading that this would be an amazing movie.) ** out of ****

'SALEM'S LOT (Stephen King) - September 17/13

I'd been wanting to read this one for a while but I have to say I was a little disappointed. There's plenty of good stuff here - the book is well written and filled with vivid characters and exciting action sequences - but it's just too darn long. King offers up more than a dozen characters and details the hell out of their respective exploits. It's just too much past a certain point; you kinda just want him to get on with it, already. **1/2 out of ****
