THE BIG BAD WOLF (James Patterson) - June 27/24

This is a very solid Alex Cross thriller. All the stuff with Alex moving to the FBI was interesting, and I enjoyed the pursuit of the Wolf. *** out of ****

RANDOM HEARTS (Warren Adler) - June 21/24

I enjoyed this, although the dialogue was never entirely convincing. But I enjoyed the characters and their slow-growing bond. *** out of ****

THE WATCHERS (A.M. Shine) - June 16/24

I read this because Michael said the movie was terrible and I was curious but I kind of liked it. It’s way, way overwritten; it almost feels like it started out as a short story but was then expanded solely through descriptive paragraphs. I nevertheless enjoyed it and I especially enjoyed the part where they found the hatch. I was impressed too that they escaped and then there was a whole lot of book left. The cliffhanger ending is pretty decent, as well. *** out of ****

A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW (Amor Towles) - June 9/24

This one is pretty frustrating. I read maybe a third of it before giving up and then finishing it months later. I like bits and pieces of it but it’s so long and so episodic that it really only kept me interested some of the time. ** out of ****
