LONG ISLAND COMPROMISE (Taffy Brodesser-Akner) - July 30/24

This wildly, wildly overlong book is still basically enjoyable, although I much preferred the first two stories to the last (I just didn’t find Jenny particularly interesting, and also I was ready for the book to be finished.) I glazed over the last stretch a little but mostly I liked the book well enough. **1/2 out of ****

THE SUMMER PACT (Emily Giffin) - July 19/24

This is pretty much exactly what I wanted from Giffin. The three protagonists are quite charming and compelling, and the narrative is fast paced and entertaining. I thought the revelation that Hannah was gay was a little silly, but otherwise I enjoyed it. *** out of ****

WAYWARD (Blake Crouch) - July 14/24

I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy this because it seemed like the premise would lend itself to something repetitive, but Crouch tosses in twist after twist and advances the story a lot quicker than I would’ve thought. The final stretch was especially compelling and I can’t wait to see how this series wraps up. ***1/2 out of ****

HIGH CRIMES (Joseph Finder) - July 9/24

This is a little on the long side but I enjoyed it. It’s a definite beach read that kept me engaged, even if the surprise revelation (ie he actually did it) wasn’t much of a surprise.

SANDWICH (Catherine Newman) - July 1/24

This very well written book really grew on me. Newman does a terrific job of establishing the characters and their personalities, and I appreciated that the narrator wasn’t super likable. I also liked how the abortion was slowly revealed over the course of the book. I just really liked these people and spending time with them. ***1/2 out of ****
